Virtual Panel: Alumni Insights on Finding Employment

Are you a current student at the University of Tartu wondering what lies past graduation and the light at the end of the academic tunnel? Join us for a virtual panel talk on Thursday, 21 November to discuss the real-life experiences of four alumni who have successfully navigated the job market while studying and after graduating from the University of Tartu.

Our speakers are former Student Ambassadors and graduates from the University of Tartu, including:

Sabina Tatarytskaya (Belarus 🇧🇾)
Master’s in Materials Science and Technology, who is now working as a Materials Scientist and R&D team member at Myceen in Tallinn. Sabina has worked previously as both Laboratory Assistant and Junior Scientific Researcher in Minsk, Belarus, and now works in biotech, passionate about chemistry, analysis and eco-friendly alternatives to conventional materials. She is currently focused on improving acoustic and insulation panels from mycelium and wood industry by-products, improving the resistance to fire including material enhancement. She also is involved with raw material mixing and sterilisation alongside the production of design elements and furniture.
🔐 Gabriela Villafuerte Guerrero (Ecuador 🇪🇨)
Master’s in Information Technology Law, who is working as a Data Protection Specialist at Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador and has worked as a Legal Consultant at PDP Expert. Her background includes data privacy, strategic planning, personal data protection law, and legal compliance and is passionate about strengthening and safeguarding personal data and advising on best practices to software developers who play a crucial role in ensuring data privacy and compliance. Since graduating from the University of Tartu, she has strengthened her knowledge in AI, Python, information security, and personal data protection (PDP).
👩‍💻 Azhar Kazakbaeva (Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬)
Master’s in Software Engineering, who is working as a Software Engineer at Microsoft in Tartu. Azhar has a background in research and data analytics, coding, product management and engineering. Her passions include technology’s impact on society and advocating for diversity within STEM.
📢 Merey Beisembayev (Kazakhstan 🇰🇿)
Bachelor’s in Business Administration (2022) and currently enrolled in a Master’s in Innovation and Technology Management (2025), working as a Marketing and Communications Manager at Buildit VC and as Project Manager and Consultant at Baltic Innovation Agency in Tartu. Coming from a background in communications and digital marketing, Merey made the shift to project management and is pursuing an interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Innovation and Technology Management to combine his interests in business, technology, and innovation. At Buildit VC, Merey helps drives brand elevation and portfolio growth by executing social media strategies, creating SEO-optimised content, analysing audience data for targeted engagement, and writes a newsletter audience from scratch to over 800 subscribers.
Our panellists are graduates of both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees who will offer insights into their experiences and challenges in finding employment across placements to full-time positions. We will have an open Q&A session at the end to let you ask any burning questions or practical advice in finding a dream career, facilitated by our hosts and 2024 International Student Ambassadors Dimitris (Greece 🇬🇷) and Lachlan (Australia 🇦🇺)

Survey of career aspirations and employer selection preferences among students in business, finance, mathematics, and IT within the Baltic States

This survey is initiated by Ernst & Young Baltic member firms to explore career aspirations and employer selection preferences among students in Business, Finance, Mathematics, and IT within the Baltic States. Its aim is to better understand the topicalities in the selected job market. This survey is specifically designed for students from select universities and faculties familiar with certain companies (you can see the list here – LT, LV, EE).

We expect it to take about 15 minutes of your time. We greatly appreciate your time and participation before 4 November!

At this event, you can gather information about specific companies, thesis topics, internship opportunities, summer jobs, and other jobs – tailored to your field of study.

The program includes an introduction to Ülemiste City and group visits to various companies (each student can visit 2–3 companies):

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) holds great potential for Estonian students. With 38 member countries, the organisation primarily focuses on economic policy but also places significant emphasis on other fields closely related to economics and development, such as healthcare, development cooperation, agriculture, education, environment, social policy, public administration, digital topics and artificial intelligence, disinformation and misinformation, gender equality, and more. Skills in statistics and analytics are particularly valued.

The Permanent Representation of Estonia to the OECD, in cooperation with OECD representatives, will provide an overview of the OECD’s work and various internship programmes. Additionally, Estonians currently working at the OECD will share their experiences.
